  • Wear a name tag at rehearsals to facilitate better camaraderie; and

  • Warmly welcome new members to help them feel at ease.

Your Questions Answered

Do members pay fees or tuition? Does Bella Musica offer scholarships?

Yes, our current fees are $150 for the semester and $25 for the music. We do offer scholarships. Those who are interested should talk to a Board member.about partial and full scholarships.

How large is the chorus?

The chorus has grown from 18 members in the Spring of 2023 to 40 members currently.

What is the general make-up of the group?

The group varies in age from college age students to retired folks in their mid-80s. We are comprised of approximately 75% women and 25% men. Our members come mainly from the U.S., but also from other regions, including Latin America, the Middle East, Great Britain, Germany, and Japan.

What are you looking for in new singers? Do I need to know how to read music?

We are looking for people who like to sing in a group and are interested in learning how to become a better singer, both individually and in a chorus.

Singers should enjoy learning music from all different areas of the classical repertoire, including Medieval, Bach, Beethoven, early 20th century, as well as current composers. Although we offer practice files, online performance files, sectionals and vocal coaching, most new members find that they need to have rudimentary music reading skills to enjoy the choral experience.

What is the performance dress code?

Chorus members wear all black with arms and legs covered. No jackets.

Are there solo and small group opportunities?

Each season, there are select opportunities to solo or join a small group for several different concert pieces.

Are there sectionals and support materials for singers? Are there additional activities for chorus members?

We offer online practice files, pronunciation guides, online performance videos (Spotify or YouTube), sectionals and a vocal coaching session. We also hold a retreat each season in a member’s home, where we rehearse and then enjoy treats, wine and socializing together.

We try to perform an outreach concert in the community each season. We also have an end of season party several days after our concert.
